Our creative lead Oli is an Emmy nominated and multi BAFTA winning director. He has made children’s drama, learning series, webseries and a multitude of weird and wonderful short films. Many clients make use of Flocks ability to direct and oversee post production all in one place.
After graduating from Edinburgh College of Art, Oli got his career break working as an animation and stor assistant on Tim Burton's stop motion feature The Corpse Bride. Over the following years he was able to hone his love of live action, often with a pinch of animation and composition in the mix. This soon landed him directing position on two web series for Endemol in the mid 00s. Krill (Microsofts first foray into a web series) won a WESBY and was nominated for an EMMY. Oli continued a prolific animation career while pursuing live action direction in the following years.
In 2012 Oli directed a magical BBC learning series called Bringing Books to Life, which explored the worlds of well known children's books through live action and animation. This was the start of his collaboration with the late Katie Jones, the BBC exec producer had Oli directing two cinema films which spearheaded the award winning Ten Pieces classical music project. These unique films sought to capture children's imaginations and inspire creativity through classical music. This gave Oli the opportunity to experiment with many styles and work with some wonderful well known faces. During this same period he directed two series of Poetry Between the Lines, each of which won a BAFTA.
In 2015 Oli directed the BBC/EBU children’s drama Guin and the Dragon, which he co-created with writer friend Andrew McCalden. In the same year he became partner and creative director of animation and graphics house Flock London, and along with partner Jim Evans has produced beautiful work for multiple high profile brands and tv channels. Over the last three years Flock, under Oli’s direction have created promos for BBC Radio 2’s 500 Words children’s writing competition. This involved animating the Duchess of Cornwall and Chris Evans.
This year Oli collaborated with the Imaginarium and Director Andy Serkis on a half hour arts piece for BBC2 entitled The Ruins of Empires. This unique film fused motion capture, live action, traditional animation and games engine footage with a live performance from outspoken hip hop artist Akala.
Oli is currently developing a slate of live action and animated propositions.
